Just a little over a year ago I was standing on the rocks in Acadia National Park, enjoying the sun and breeze and watching the waves break over the rocks in hypnotic repetition. If you look closely, you’ll see others enjoying the cool breeze and perhaps smelling the salt air, and maybe even some mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the sea.

Taking a break from your routine and getting away is always nice in that it gives you the opportunity to pause, take a breath and maybe even catch a sunset as colorful as this one was. I’m hoping that one of these days soon I’ll be walking a beach and enjoying a beautiful sunset over the ocean.

It’s cloudy here today and I woke up to lots of negative, sad, and disturbing news. I’m finding like a lot of people, that I need to take a break from all the news from time to time to maintain my equilibrium. Fortunately, I also have art to occupy my time and this encourages me to focus on the positive; the beautiful natural world that exists around us. So, I’m not choosing to ignore what is going on right now but I am choosing to focus on remembering that beautiful skies also exist, that sunny days still happen, and that we are all better when we remember all that we share instead of all that divides us.

I’ve been trying to slowly clean up and better-organize my small art studio this summer and it’s been a voyage of discovery. I’ve found a few art supplies that I forgot I had and discovered some old paintings that were hidden behind some of my newer ones. Today’s painting is one that I discovered and I believe is based on a reference photo that my talented artist friend Karen Margulis took. We both spent our childhood in southern Florida and have fond memories of this area.
