It’s the end of a busy week, and almost the end of January, a month no one seems to be sorry to see end. The sun is shining and it just seems perfect to focus on this colorful painting of flowers that I did recently. My wonderful kids sent me these beautiful flowers for my birthday in November. The print on the wall is one I just love, by the Fauvist artist, Henri Matisse, called “The Goldfish. It violates so many of the rules that we artists have been trained to follow that it just makes me smile. And because it’s is so playful and colorful, it reminds me that creating art can be tremendously fun!

We had been driving for hours that day, stopping occasionally to hike and I was taking photos everywhere for later paintings. We pulled into this motel on the coast just as the sun was going down and it was absolutely amazing! There was an almost violent surf hitting and swirling around the rocks and just gorgeous colors in the sky. It created such a fascinating contrast that I was mesmerized! I stood there taking photos as quickly as I could to capture the fading, glorious light, scrambling all over the rocks, nearly falling in at times, until at last, the light was gone and all that was left was the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.
Hope your sunsets are mesmerizing this weekend!

It started out to be one of those winter days that everybody hates: cold and rainy but ended as this painting indicates: with a gorgeous blue sky and magnificent colors in the clouds.
Hope you have a happy, colorful weekend!

Thankful for the Color Red

It’s a grey, dreary day here and I find myself so grateful for the color red. I just did a quick review of some of the positive things associated with the color red: love, life, happiness, prosperity, long life, luck, money, Christmas, Santa Claus…No wonder I love this color!
It’s great to be an artist on days like this when I can create a colorful image when all of the ones outside my window are so cheerless.

            Wishing you a cheerful weekend!
