I’ve been craving warm greens and blues instead of the hundreds of variations of brown and grey that I see outside. I spent most of my childhood in southern Florida and took for granted that vivid colors would be all around all year long. Unfortunately, I don’t have many reference photos of landscapes from there and so, I chose to paint a beautiful day near the Isle of Palms in South Carolina.

I saw this scene from the car as we reluctantly drove away from the Charleston area in the fall. In spite of the grey day, there was this beautiful stream and just a hint of color in the fields.

It’s been grey, dreary, and raining for two days. I decided to look on the positive side and try to remember that showers bring flowers. Maybe it’s a little early but I’m dying for colors other than brown and grey so I decided to paint tulips, one of my favorite flowers.
Hope your weekend brings some sun and blue skies, and memories of beautiful spring flowers.

As extreme cold grips much of the eastern U.S., I’m remembering the warmth and sunshine of a summer day. It’s one of the many wonderful aspects of being an artist in that you can create your own reality. While I don’t really mind the cold (except when I have to run in it), I really enjoyed painting and remembering this coastal scene from two summers ago. I loved how all the birds gathered along and within this small stream as if gathering for a great summer party.
Hoping you’re staying warm. Happy Weekend!
