We had the ideal view for someone who loves to paint rocks and water as much as I do. As the sun approached the horizon, it bathed these huge rocks in a warm orange glow, especially the one closer to us. The sea gulls were gathering as if for a huge sunset party along this small stream.

Stream Melodies

It was my idea of a perfect vacation day. It was sunny and cool in Glen Coe in the Scottish Highlands and we were hiking far away from people and traffic noise. We were surrounded by beautiful, soft green hills and mountains and I could hear the sound of running water somewhere. I think each stream has a different sound, a song or melody, depending on its size and maybe what the water travels over or around. This stream, on this day, sounded beautifully inviting and so I followed its melody down to the stream bed and there, perched on rocks in the middle, took multiple photos to use for this painting.

View from Raasay

We found the Isle of Raasay by accident when we couldn’t find a vacancy on the Isle of Skye, one of our favorite areas in Scotland.  The Isle of Raasay is one of the islands making up the Inner Hebrides, and is smaller than Skye. Raasay is also more quiet, less touristy, but I think just as beautiful. It ended up being a very lucky find for us.
The view that I painted is across the Sound of Raasay looking at the east coast of Skye.

When I saw the location of this house, all I could think is what an amazing view they must have every day. Whoever lives here not only has a fantastic view of the water but also magnificent hills, distant mountains, and that gorgeous sky!

We were so lucky to find an amazing hotel (The Torridon) in the northern highlands of Scotland with incredible views of mountains and water. I was struggling with trying to capture the beautiful mountains behind this tree but my attention kept wandering back to the sun starting to increasingly set this tree ablaze with light. I finally decided to do a quick painting of this gorgeous tree that just glowed as the sun went down.
