            I caught a glimpse of this scene driving through Switzerland one summer. If only highways were as scenic as this mountain path! Velvety green grass with gorgeous trees and no billboards, loud sirens, crazy drivers, etc. Imagine stepping out of your house and just walking on this beautiful slope. Ahhh…..summer is coming.

            I’ve been thinking about transitions lately. In a sad transition, this week we lost a beloved former chaplain at the college where I work. He was an incredibly kind, funny, compassionate man with a wide smile who hugged everyone he met. The number of happy or funny memories that are being shared by his friends attest to the impact that he had on so many people.

            So Sammy, this post is in your honor….sending you a hug and a big smile wherever you are now and for the rest of us, a slightly modified excerpt from a poem by Henry Van Dyke:

           “….Then, someone at my side says, 'There, he is gone'

           Gone where?
           Gone from my sight. That is all.

          And, just at the moment when someone says, 'There, he is gone,'
          there are other eyes watching him coming, and other voices
          ready to take up the glad shout, 'Here he comes!'
          And that is dying...”

It had been a long hot drive in Norway. Yes, it was hot. We came over during a summer that they were having unseasonably warm weather which we were trying to escape. The Norwegians were ecstatic and we were a little wilted. We arrived at this beautiful place to enjoy cool breezes, the sight of the setting sun and these gorgeous, shimmering mountains.
