             As I write this it’s not quite officially summer but it’s beginning to feel like it already. There are longer hours of sunlight and today it’s sunny and warm with big fluffy clouds overhead. I love summer skies since there are usually full of interesting clouds that are both challenging and fun to paint.

             I have a friend and colleague, Joe, who is the envy of all of us with this beautiful view as his backyard. I’m still trying to figure out how he ever gets up the motivation to go into work every day. However, given how spectacularly he has done his very challenging job for decades, I’d say this is exactly the magnificent view that he deserves.

It was another grey, rainy weekend and I was searching for something, anything, that reminded me of light and color when I saw this photo that I took while walking along a trail in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage area. I look at this and remember the sun on my face, the sounds of the birds, and the sight of a beautiful, glowing, orange and gold tree. It’s good to remember warm, autumn colors on a cold, winter day.

The Fun of Snow

            It’s been raining again for days, leaving the land soggy, brown, and gray. I remember this snow fall from last winter and a photo taken by my friend Ken of happy parents and kids playing in the snow. You can see the beauty of the snow and the sun making the remaining leaves in the trees glow...now this is my ideal winter scene!

            This painting is based on a photo from a friend of mine (thanks Ken) of a local Atlanta park after our snowfall last week. Since we don’t see snow all that often in the south, we tend to go a little crazy when we do. The good part of the craziness is that so many workplaces close, that parents can actually have as much fun playing in the snow as  their kids can.
