Memories of Happier Days - Paris

 “ Memories of Paris”       Pastel          9” x 12”         $100    © Sharon Lewis

In light of the recent reports from Paris, I couldn’t help but remember being there this summer. The parks were full of children walking with their parents or running ahead to explore. Couples walked hand-in-hand strolling through the beautiful grounds around the Louvre or along the Seine. It was a happy, peaceful time. I hope for everyone’s sake that there will be peace again in this very beautiful city.

It was my birthday this week and I was so fortunate to receive, on my very dark and rainy birthday, gorgeous, colorful flowers from my two wonderful children. Many of the colors that I see in their flowers are in this painting of mine, which I recently rediscovered.
You will no doubt see the flowers they sent me in a future painting.
Hoping you have a happy, sunny weekend!

In the center of the beautiful city of Edinburgh is an amazing place called Holyrood Park. Within this park is a peak of 822 feet called “Arthur’s Seat”. Hiking to the top of this hill, you can see wonderful views of the city and the surrounding areas. The park is filled with these soft green hills with their contrasting craggy rocks, and tucked within some of the tall grasses like a hidden oasis, was this tiny pond.

This is another version of a scene that I loved gazing at this summer. It was that time in the evening when there is still light at the horizon and bats and barred owls flutter and glide overhead.  It felt like an autumn evening, maybe one close to Halloween when, “from the world of spirits there descends a bridge of light, connecting it with this, o'er whose unsteady floor, that sways and bends, wander our thoughts above the dark abyss” (Excerpt from “Haunted Houses” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1807 – 1882).
Happy Halloween!

It was my first time in Paris and we only had about a day and a half to see everything! We were exhausted from traveling and jet lag but it was Paris! So as soon as we got there, we walked along the Seine for a couple of hours and later had an amazing dinner. I remember how beautiful the fading afternoon light was on the bridge, the colorful buildings and the river Seine. The next day we walked through beautiful parks,  toured Paris’ magnificent museums, the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay, followed by more wonderful food. Before we knew it, it was time to say, “Au revoir” to this beautiful city. What an amazing place!
Happy Weekend!

It was that time of night when the light begins to fade and the birds seem to be calling good night. Before the sun slipped away completely, it set this meadow ablaze with light and it was only then that I noticed this small house tucked into the trees,….. with an absolutely perfect view of everything.
           Happy Weekend!
