Too Cold for Swimming

It took me two days to fly back from Newfoundland (thank you Air Canada) so I decided to put my 24 layover in Montreal to good use and paint one of the many lovely views I saw in Newfoundland. I noticed that at many of the beaches, people had brought all  the things we expect to see on any beach in the south: towels, snacks, and suntan lotion. However, no one was in the water and people often had fleece jackets over their bathing suits. It takes a great deal of optimism to enjoy a day at the beach in Newfoundland with the cold water and wind gusts or maybe you need simply, an appreciation for sparkling blue water and gorgeous views.

            Happy Weekend!

There’s probably never a time when I would turn down going to the beach. After all, I grew up on the east coast where some of my best memories are exploring the beach with my brothers and sisters. We’d overturn rocks much like these to see if we could discover worms for fishing or pick up soldier crabs on the shore just to see what was inside. I also remember never getting tired of looking at the sky for there were always amazing clouds overhead.

Hope you see some beautiful skies this weekend!

I don’t know about you but with all of the bad news I keep hearing sometimes I just need to imagine being someplace like this…to catch my breath, and remember what peace and tranquility feel like.

We were in northern California, winding our way through redwoods, golden, grassy hills sprinkled with cattle, and then back down to the water somehow. We discovered this interesting beach where the winds were cold, the sand was dark and littered with driftwood, and the water was a beautiful, emerald green. I love how the natural world consistently amazes me!

Normally, this time of year would find me traveling to a professional conference and I’m really missing that right now. I miss the fun of visiting Chicago, which is a city I love and is where my conference was meeting this year. So, since I’ve been missing traveling more than usual lately, I decided to create some of my favorite places via painting. Today’s painting is of one of my favorite beaches to visit on Wild Dunes near Charleston, South Carolina.
Happy Weekend and a Happy 1st Birthday to William Walden, my wonderful grandchild!
