I’m leaving soon for an amazing art conference, the International Association of Pastel Societies, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  It’s a wonderful gathering of talented artists, who teach, attend classes, and conduct workshops. There’s always an amazing exhibit of gorgeous art and it’s a great opportunity to talk with other people who are as passionate as I am about art. We joke and empathize with each other about the challenges of painting and drool together over the displays of art supplies. I can’t wait!

I’m back from our trip to Norway. We were hoping for cool weather as a break from Atlanta’s heat and humidity. Surprisingly, almost everywhere we went, the people were so excited that they were experiencing warm and sunny days. Oh well; we may have been much warmer than we expected but the people of Norway couldn’t have been nicer and the land is absolutely gorgeous! The warm and sunny days also produced some exceptionally sweet fruit, much like the berries in today’s painting.
Hope you’re enjoying the fruits of summer.

I’m back after a holiday break. I’ve had a wonderful time visiting with my kids and friends although the time passed far too quickly.  Although I haven’t posted here on my blog, I have been painting. I’ve been working on some landscapes but also on some paintings that are very different from what I usually post. I’ll talk more about these different paintings later.
In the meantime, I was curious about what apples symbolize and so did a little research online. I was amazed at how cultures around the world view the apple so differently. In Greek myth, they’re golden and gifts of the goddess of love, Aphrodite. In Norse mythology, apples are symbols of beauty and rebirth. In Celtic traditions they may be given as tokens of good luck. So I offer you, in the form of a painting, these apples of beauty, rebirth, and good luck as well as my wishes for a very happy New Year.

I’m not sure why I choose to post colorful paintings of pears whenever it’s been raining for days as it has been here in north Georgia. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the only colors I’ve seen outside for quite some time (feels like forever!) have been grey and brown. So I’m offering to all those who might be in similar circumstances, a small dose of warmth and bright colors.
