“There is in them a softer fire than the ruby, there is the brilliant purple of the amethyst, and the sea green of the emerald - all shining together in incredible union.”  - Pliny (c. AD 23 – August 25, AD 79). I don’t often find myself quoting first century philosopher/naturalists, but I found that this quote by Pliny just seems to fit this painting. He was describing the beauty of the opal but it also seems to apply to the view I had of the mountains several weeks ago.

I have had this petite painting sitting on my window sill to cheer me up on gray days such as this one. I used some of my iridescent pastel colors to get the sparkly effect which reminds me of tiny snow flakes falling quietly onto these beautiful trees. It also reminds me of the brilliant colors of the holiday season. I have to admit that I have never lost my childlike fascination with all that twinkles, shimmers, or shines this season.
                  Have a sparkly weekend!
